Modern Day History:
Bat Yam was established in 1926 by observant families as a suburb of Tel Aviv on the Mediterranean coast and is now home to 160,000 people.

During the 1929 Arab riots, residents were forced to temporarily leave and in 1930 returned along with Jews escaping Germany to build a flourishing city.

After Israel's independence in 1948, Bat Yam experienced rapid growth with mass immigration. And again during the 1990s, Bat Yam had mass growth with many immigrants from the FSU.

During the early 2000s, Bat Yam began to transform the city with modern renovations. Bat Yam is a popular spot for beach-goers with its location on the Mediterranean coast. The city has built new landscaped traffic circles, fixed sidewalks and planted public gardens making the city more pleasant for residents and welcoming for visitors who vacation at the many hotels on the Mediterranean coast.
