Location: 
Beit Shean is a small town in northern Israel. Located in the Beit Shean Valley, part of the north Jordan Valley. 

Driving Directions to Beit Shean:
Route 1 to Route 6 (toll road) north to Route 65 (about 60 km). Go along here towards Tiberias for about 30 km before turning right onto 675 for 10 km. Turn right at route 71 and follow signs.

Today Beit Shean is home of a number of kibbutzim and moshavim. 
 
Biblical History: 
First established in the fifth century BCE, a number of conquering regimes controlled Beit Shean that can be evidenced at a number of archelogical sites in the area that have uncovered the remains of a Canaanite city, a Hellenistic city (renamed Scythopolis) and a Roman Byzantine City. The remains found in Bet Shean date back to the Hellenistic times. 
 
In Jewish biblical text the Philistines hanged the bodies of King Saul and his sons after the crushing defeat on Mt. Gilboa.
