Modern Day: Maaleh Adumim is a beautiful, clean city, located just outside Jerusalem that was estblished in 1975.  Many of the residents work in Jerusalem and the surrounding areas. The city boasts several schools, a community center, sports complexes, a public library, full range of emergency services including ambulance, fire and police, and much more.

The land was uninhabited desert prior to 1975, much as the surrounding hills remain today. Maaleh Adumim is just a few kilometers outside of Jerusalem, located on the edge of the Judean Desert.  The land was under Jordanian control from 1947, when the British ended their mandate, until 1967 when it was captured by Israel during the Six Day War. Prior to the British Mandate, the land was part of the Ottoman Empire.  
  
Biblical History: "Maaleh Adumim" is described in the the book of Joshua as a border area between the tribes of Judah and Benjamin. The name refers to the route leading from the Jordan Valley to Jerusalem, dominated by "reddish hues" in its rock formations.
