Modern Day: A small group of pioneers from Jerusalem founded Petach Tikva in the year 1878. They were Rabbi Yoel-Moshe Salomon, Rabbi David Gutmann and Yehoshua Stampfer. Baron Rothschild in 1888 began to purchase land to help the farmers of the settlement. Petach Tikva received the status of a city in 1937. Today Petach Tikva is a modern city offering many services to the residenent with a population of around 200,000.
