The entrance to the hiding cave

The Midras Ruins - Adulam Park
By: Ari Levitas

While I was on my way to the Churvat Madras, the Madrad ruins in Adulam Park, I thought it was just going to be a cave that you walk around in. I was wrong. The Madras Ruins were so much cooler!! These caves were pretty narrow.
After hiking to the caves you get to crawl into a very tiny tunnel inside the rocky walls. There are always arrows pointing you in the right direction. I wouldn't recommend to go into tunnels that are not in the right direction, simply because you could get lost. Also, I would not recommend this to people who have back problems being there is alot of turning and crawling. Don't forget to bring water with you, seeing that it could be very hot.
This is appropiate for all ages although it may be too scary for little kids. The tunnel is pretty short (10-20 minutes) and a flashlight is required. The cave gives an idea as to how people prepared themselves for the rebellion.

The JNF (Jewish National Fund) established in the Madras ruin a well-organized hiking route and its completion takes 1.5 hours of pleasant walking among the many sites that populate the ruin. Actually, you will see several sights such as an ancient settlement, burial chambers, hiding caves and more.
From Mitzpe Masuah, located in the heart of Park Brittania which is a great place for a picnic/barbeque with many picnic tables, running water and bathrooms, is also a good starting point if you want to take a short hike to Madras ruins. Get on the red trail (3.5 km) and it will lead you to Churvat Midras. You can also leave a second car at Churvat Midras, so there will be a car waiting for you at the end of the hike.
If you want to drive directly to the Midras Ruins in Park Adulam: Highway 1 to the Beit Shemesh exit (Highway 38). Continue on Highway 38 past past Beit Shemesh.  Continue past the E'lah junction south on Highway 38. Pass by the Givat Yishayahu-Srigim Junction and after about 500 meters turn left-east (across from the entrance to mitzpe masua) onto a paved pathway to Adulam Park. From this point follow the wooden JNF signs. At the beginning follow the black path. After about 2.4 kilometers at a fork in the road, turn left to Churvat Midras. Near the furniture factory turn right to the parking lot.
