Holon Design Museum
Design Museum Holon
Designed by world-renowned architect Ron Arad, Design Museum Holon was inaugurated in March 2010 and has quickly established itself as the most exciting recent development to emerge in the Middle East. The Museum is part of an urban regeneration initiative which aims to transform the City of Holon into a centre for design.
Central to Design Museum Holon’s mission is to supply an enriching and thought- provoking environment for visitors to explore exciting and engaging design ideas, principles, processes and objects in a tactile and practical fashion.
The museum investigates design and its borders through exciting exhibitions in which we bring together international curators and Israeli designers, forging connections that extend far beyond the walls of Design Museum Holon.
For all our exhibitions we create truly unique activities that express the museum's innovative approach – both for the professional audience and for the public at large. Visitors to the exhibitions are able to enjoy two of the services we developed over the past years – a personal audio-video guide, which provides detailed explanations concerning the objects on display and the curatorial approach' as well as a comprehensive educational program. These guided tours include footage that provide historical surveys on various subjects, as well as interviews with designers and provides a rich satisfying learning experience. Parents and children are invited to visit the exhibitions accompanied by "design detectives" work pages.
Design Museum Holon is located within a large cultural center – the Mediatheque. This cultural center consists of the largest public library in Israel, a raw material library which is one of a kind in the country, the largest creative children's theatre in Israel. The Holon Cinematheque, and the Israeli Cartoon Museum. The center contains many hosting areas, advanced auditoriums and more. Its integration within such a cultural center will allow the museum to extend its activities beyond its
physical boundaries and galleries, to host conventions, events and workshops and develop multidisciplinary events and activities.
Every Museum writes a history, Design Museum Holon is writing a history of change, of influences, of positioning and of looking at identity through material culture.
